Arsenal contact Rennes about 20yo

Jérémy Jacquet has emerged as a defensive target for Arsenal, with the club making initial enquiries about the Rennes centre-back ahead of a potential move.

The 20-year-old, who signed a new contract until June 2029 earlier this year, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1 last season, making 11 league appearances and establishing himself as one of Stade Rennais’ most consistent young performers.

His form has also earned him recognition at international level, representing France at Under-21s.

Standing at 6ft 2in and comfortable on the ball, Jacquet has built a reputation for composure in possession and strong aerial ability.

Last season he completed 85% of his passes and won over 60% of his defensive duels, while avoiding a single booking across more than 900 minutes of Ligue 1 football.

Arsenal’s interest seems to be with Jakub Kiwior in mind, either to strengthen should he leave or as forward planning for 2026.

Rennes are expected to resist approaches, having extended Jacquet’s contract at the end of May. He is currently valued at around €13.7 million, a fee likely to rise significantly if all goes well over the course of next season.
