Rosa Kafaji to be loaned to Brighton

Swedish journalist Amanda Zaza has reported that Arsenal forward Rosa Kafaji is going to get a loan to Brighton and Hove Albion.

It really makes sense for it to happen as the Swedish forward has had little game time since Renee Slegers took over from Jonas Eidevall.

There were suggestions that she was losing the ball in dangerous areas and often not being productive enough for the team among the reasons for the lack of game time.

Amanda also reports that Sportbladet understand Arsenal are open to the loan move to support her development, and provide regular playing time. They rate her very highly and view any move as a development loan, with her returning to the club in the future.

There is no doubt that game time would be very limited next season, with as many as ten forward players vying for four spots on the pitch: Mariona Caldentey, Beth Mead, Frida Maanum, Olivia Smith, Chloe Kelly, Caitlin Foord, Vicky Pelova, Alessia Russo, Stina Blackstenius, and Michelle Agyemang all fighting for game time.

That’s why academy youngster Freya Godfrey has left for London City Lionesses as her gametime would have been non-existent and she needs first team football at her age. So it definitely makes sense for Rosa to spend a season on loan and develop. It did the world of good for Michelle Agyemang to have a full season at Brighton and she has now exploded on the international scene with England at the Euros.

Arsenal have currently 33 players under professional contract, eight of them are players who came through the Academy.

Two of them are first team players in their own right: Michelle Agyemang and Katie Reid, but the other six players are likely to go on loan to carry on getting game time as Arsenal can only register 25 players in the WSL and in the UWCL.

You would also expect Laura Wienroither to find a new club as she is clearly not in Renee Slegers’s plan as her profile does not fit what the head coach wants.
