Arsenal transfer to go ahead despite medical issue claims

Claims of a medical issue delaying Cristhian Mosquera’s transfer have been denied, with the media in Valencia insisting the move will still go through.

Arsenal travelled to Singapore over the weekend for their pre-season tour, and Cristhian Mosquera was a rather surprising absentee.

Reports had suggested Mosquera’s transfer from Valencia would be finalised in time for the player to join his new team on the plane, but it still hasn’t been announced two days after their departure.

At the weekend, claims circulated that Mosquera had an issue during his medical, and that the complications needed to be addressed prior to the official announcement. But sources in Valencia have denied those reports.

David Torres reports for El Desmarque that the only issues are in finalising the documentation, with their sources ruling out the possibility that Mosquera had failed a medical.

Hector Gomez writes for Tribuna Deportiva that some sources confirm Mosquera has passed his medical, with the deal just awaiting official approval. Other sources refuse to confirm or deny a medical issue, but insist the transfer will go ahead.

Back in England, Ryan Taylor reported for the Mirror over the weekend that Arsenal were just waiting for the deal to be formally ratified, having exchanged all relevant paperwork with Valencia.

Mosquera has already completed his Arsenal media duties as a new signing, which we know in part because a picture of the defender was mistakenly uploaded to Getty Images, as shown above.

Once the deal is formally ratified, it shouldn’t be long before the club confirm it. The hope is that it’s all done in time to fly Mosquera out to join the pre-season tour, albeit slightly late.

Previous reports have suggested Arsenal will pay an initial fee of £13m for Mosquera, plus add-ons of around £3.5m.
