Liverpool have successfully regained the upper hand over Arsenal in their attempts to sign Will Wright, with the player now holding a medical with the Merseyside club.

David Ornstein and James Pearce report for The Athletic that Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Salford City teenager Will Wright, and the player is now holding a medical ahead of completing his transfer.
Arsenal also had an agreement with Salford City for a transfer, but they never agreed personal terms with the player. Liverpool have now done so, with Wright reportedly preferring to stay in the north West.
Anfield is less than an hour away from Salford’s home ground, whereas the Emirates Stadium is roughly four times that. Wright evidently wasn’t keen to move so far away from his current home up north.

Liverpool had been the favourites to sign Wright in the first place, but the pendulum swung towards Arsenal after the Gunners became the first to agree a deal with Salford City.
That deal was reportedly in the region of £200k plus add-ons, and the plan was to add Wright to Arsenal’s u21 team. The striker will instead link up with Liverpool’s u21s this season.

Only recently turning 17, Wright has already made four competitive appearances for League Two Salford City. He’s also been heavily involved in senior pre-season this summer.
