Arsenal owners look to sign former Gunner for Colorado Rapids

Colorado Rapids are exploring a move to sign former Arsenal player Rob Holding, potentially bringing the defender back to a club owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

Bobby Manzi reports for News Shopper that the Colorado Rapids are exploring a move to sign Crystal Palace and former Arsenal player Rob Holding.

Manzi writes that Holding is available for a nominal fee despite having a contract for another year, as Palace boss Oliver Glasner sees no future for him at the club following a previous falling out.

A move to Colorado Rapids would mean a return to a club owned by the Kroenkes, who also own Arsenal.

Previous reports had linked Holding with a potential move to the MLS, though no specific club had been named until now.

Holding spent the last six months on loan with Sheffield United in the Championship, making 11 appearances for the club in all competitions as they ultimately missed out on promotion by losing in the play-off final.

Before that loan, Holding had spent a year and five months without playing a single senior fixture, with Palace choosing to completely freeze out the centre-back.

The BBC reported last October that the player had a disagreement about a post-match running session in August 2024, and he didn’t make a single matchday squad after that.

Holding joined Palace from Arsenal in 2023. With just one first-team appearance under his belt, a permanent summer transfer looks likely.

The defender played 162 times for the Gunners, 132 appearances more than he’s managed for any other senior side.
