The Arsenal winger delivered crucial contributions throughout the tournament, including scoring the semi-final winner against Italy and converting the decisive penalty in Sunday’s final against Spain, where she also provided the cross for Alessia Russo’s equaliser.

Leah Williamson’s OBE could also be upgraded to a CBE after captaining England to successive major titles.

The honours follow England’s previous recognition after the 2022 Euros, when Williamson received an OBE and Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze and Ellen White were awarded MBEs.

Kelly missed out then despite scoring the famous extra-time winner in the final, but her performances in Switzerland have made her inclusion this year inevitable.

Manager Sarina Wiegman, already an honorary CBE, is expected to be awarded an honorary damehood for becoming the first coach to win back-to-back European titles with England, including the first tournament win not on English soil.
