Arsenal appear set to appoint Matteo Tognozzi as part of Andrea Berta’s senior recruitment team, marking another step in the club’s overhaul of its sporting operations since Edu Gaspar’s departure.

Tognozzi, 38, is expected to join Arsenal in a supporting technical role following his dismissal as Granada’s sporting director in February.

The Italian had previously spent over five years as head of scouting at Juventus.

His arrival at Arsenal, first reported by Fabrizio Romano, would reunite him with Berta, who took over as Arsenal’s sporting director in March after a decade at Atlético Madrid. The two men have long-standing professional ties.

Tognozzi’s tenure at Granada was brief and unremarkable. Appointed in August 2023, he oversaw a final turbulent winter window in 2025 before being removed just days after it closed. The club issued a terse statement at the time, confirming that “the sports area will continue its functions normally through the professionals who make up its organisational structure, who will follow the instructions of the Board of Directors.”

No official announcement has been made by Arsenal at the time of writing, but talks are said to be ‘advanced’. He is expected to begin work ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
