Earlier this month, it was reported that Thomas Partey was set to leave Arsenal at the end of June after contract renewal talks stalled.

Now, his departure is even closer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming he will leave in just under a week as Arsenal agree a deal for Brentford’s Christian Norgaard to replace him. David Ornstein has also now entered the fray, tweeting, “Thomas Partey to leave Arsenal when contract ends tomorrow – decision final after agreement could not be found on new deal for 32yo midfielder. #AFC confirmation expected in coming days + Ghana int’l to take time before choosing next move.”

The 32-year-old midfielder, who joined the club from Atlético Madrid in 2020 after Arsenal triggered his £45 million release clause rejected Arsenal’s offer of a new deal, wanting a payrise despite being beyond fortunate to be offered anything at all.

With his current contract expiring this summer, ESPN reported last week that discussions over an extension have reached a “complete standstill” and that “Partey will leave the club on June 30.”

That came shortly after Romano also reported, “Negotiations between Arsenal and Thomas Partey over new deal are not advancing. No agreement so far and now concrete chances to part ways in the upcoming days.”

Arsenal have also already agreed a £55m deal to bring Martin Zubimendi to the club.

He will arrive in July, with Real Sociedad asking that the announcement be delayed to be included in their next accounting period. The deal is, by all reliable accounts, signed and sealed.
