Arsenal’s preferred striker signing gives social media hint

Arsenal striker target Benjamin Sesko has liked the club on Instagram as new reports suggest he’s the Gunners’ ideal centre-forward signing this summer.

Rumours surrounding Arsenal’s pursuit of a centre-forward really got going on Wednesday, as Fabrizio Romano shared that Benjamin Sesko had started following Arsenal on Instagram.

It wouldn’t be an Arsenal transfer window without an Instagram like, follow, or bio change becoming headline news, but perhaps there’s more to this story than some others.

Romano has ties to Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic, holding an interview with him just last week. It seems more than coincidence that the same journalist was the one to notice the striker’s decision to follow Arsenal on social media.

Elsewhere, BBC journalist Sami Mokbel told YouTube channel Latte Firm that “if everything went according to plan”, Arsenal would sign Sesko this summer.

The reporter added that Sesko is currently no more likely to join than Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, because there’s still so much uncertainty over the transfer fee and wages and so on. Both deals are still being worked on, allowing Arsenal to execute one when the time and the finances are right.

But all other things being equal, a move for Sesko would have more universal backing at Arsenal.

It’s unclear when exactly Sesko would be available for pre-season, as he was technically still involved on international duty earlier this month. Though he didn’t play a match due to a minor injury, he did link up with Slovenia for the break.

Assuming the striker’s summer holidays only began in earnest after that, it may still be another week or two until he’s back in training. But that would put him roughly in line with the rest of the Arsenal team anyway, so ideally the Gunners will start to make progress soon.
