Arsenal interested in signing from Andrea Berta’s former club

Arsenal are one of the clubs with an interest in signing former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, according to a report.

Matias Palacios reports for El Chiringuito TV that Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all interested in signing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez this summer.

Palacios adds that meetings with interested clubs will begin next week, so it’s likely difficult to say which is the favourite at this point. But he does suggest that an exit is possible, despite the player only recently making the move to Spain.

Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City last summer, moving for an initial €75m with a further €20m due in potential add-ons. So if he’s to move on again in 2025, you’d think it would be for a similar fee.

That would make him an expensive signing, but the 25-year-old is yet to enter his peak years and is coming off the back of a 29-goal season with Atletico.

That includes seven goals in 10 Champions League appearances this campaign, and Alvarez also has Premier League experience from his time with City.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta will know Alvarez well, having signed him for Atletico last year. You certainly wouldn’t rule out a potential deal.

Yet it’s evidently going to be an expensive move, and Atletico will be under little pressure to sell this summer. The Gunners are probably more likely to pursue one of their established targets like Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres.
