Arsenal’s striker hunt: The transfer targets being eyed for Emirates move

Arsenal are likely to secure second place in the Premier League after their deep Champions League run which saw them reach the semi-finals this season, however, it’s another campaign without picking up any silverware for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The general consensus is that the Gunners are crying out for a top striker, with UK bookies on FIRST.com offering odds on Arsenal splashing the cash as the pressure will mount on Arteta if he fails to lift a trophy again next season.

So, who are the options available as Arsenal look to get to the next level and win the Premier League and/or Champions League?

Alexander Isak

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is being considered by Arsenal, however, he might not be a realistic target.

The Toon’s hefty price tag for the Swedish striker, who has three years left on his contract, could prove a major stumbling block.

Isak has netted 20-plus goals in the last two seasons but he can be filed under Arsenal’s ‘dream target’ as signing the 25-year-old would use up the majority – if not all – of their transfer kitty.

Isak has many admirers at the Emirates and it’s claimed Arteta would be delighted with the signing.

Reports have suggested that the forward, who is currently a doubt for the final day with injury, is open to leaving Newcastle and heading to London which does offer Arsenal some hope.

Viktor Gyokeres

One of the leading candidates to join Arsenal is Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres is Isak’s Sweden team-mate but he could prove a cheaper alternative. It’s claimed Sporting are willing to sell for around £70 million and the Portuguese side expect him to leave this summer so they’re already eyeing replacements.

The 26-year-old is averaging just under a goal per game in all competitions for Sporting since joining from Coventry in 2023 and Arsenal will be hoping that continues if he heads to north London.

Benjamin Sesko

Another name on Arsenal’s shortlist is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian, 21, has long been admired by the Gunners and he came close to joining Arsenal last summer, however, a deal didn’t materialise.

The 6ft 5in forward, who has netted over 25 goals this season, offers a physical presence as well as being a clinical finisher.

Sesko is under contract until 2029 after signing an extension last year so he won’t come cheap if the Gunners call. However, given his age, he could be a valuable investment for Arsenal.

Jonathan David

Jonathan David of Lille has also emerged as a possible target for Arsenal.

The 25-year-old hit 25 goals for the French outfit this season and he could join the Gunners on a free transfer as his contract expires this summer.

However, the Canadian is attracting interest from other top European clubs so Arteta and Co. may need to move fast if that’s the route they choose to go down.
