Raya, who has been first-choice under Mikel Arteta since his arrival from Brentford in 2023, will now wear the No. 1 shirt, following Aaron Ramsdale’s move to Southampton last summer.

The number remained vacant throughout the current campaign but now returns to use with Raya becoming the latest in a line of notable Arsenal keepers to take the jersey, including David Seaman, Jens Lehmann, Wojciech Szczesny and Pat Jennings.

Raya’s switch frees up No. 22, which has been taken by Ethan Nwaneri, who wore 53 during his breakthrough season.

The teenager has emerged as one of Arsenal’s most exciting prospects, and his new number has only been worn by 11 players before, including, Pablo Mari, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Yaya Sanogo, Francis Coquelin and Gael Clichy.
