Arsenal are interested in Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer, with the player’s current club putting an £80m price tag on his head.

Mark Douglas reports for The i Paper that rumours continue to circulate around Anthony Gordon’s future at Newcastle United, despite the club’s official stance that they don’t want to sell and he doesn’t want to leave.
Douglas suggests Gordon could be the player it makes most sense for Newcastle to trade for a suitable offer this summer, with a price tag of around £80m on him.
The report adds that Arsenal and Chelsea are both understood to be interested in the winger.

This isn’t the first recent mention of Arsenal interest in Gordon. David Ornstein reported for The Athletic earlier this month that Arsenal like the 24-year-old, so he’s clearly an option.
Though it’s worth highlighting that various reports suggest the Gunners have done a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure they have multiple options going into the summer window. It’s hard to say exactly which target they’ll land on.
Gordon has scored six goals and assisted a further six in his 33 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, so £80m is also quite a big investment for a player providing an inconsistent return.

The current focus for Gordon is on qualifying Newcastle for next season’s Champions League.
Newcastle are in a decent position going into the final game, knowing that a win will be enough to finish in the top five. But Aston Villa, Manchester City, and one of Chelsea and Nottingham Forest are all in position to capitalise if Eddie Howe’s side even draw.
Newcastle might not even have a chance of catching City, should Pep Guardiola’s team win their final two games. So fourth place is the highest they can guarantee, and only if they beat Everton.
