Arsenal have informed Real Madrid that they’ve practically finalised the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, according to a report from Spain.

Spanish outlet Cadena SER report that Real Madrid want to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer, but they’re well aware that Arsenal have the same intentions.
According to the report, Arsenal made that known to Real Madrid during a board meeting prior to the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, informing the Spanish club that they’ve practically finalised the signing of Zubimendi already.
Cadena SER add that Zubimendi isn’t Real’s first-choice midfield addition, which will likely reduce their appeal for the player. Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have been making a big push for the signing over the last year or so.

James Olley reported for ESPN last week that Arsenal were confident Zubimendi will be their first summer signing, with negotiations already at an advanced stage.
As well as Arteta being a keen admirer, sporting director Andrea Berta agrees that the player would help strengthen the team’s midfield. As a result, Zubimendi’s arrival is “widely expected” at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The one point Olley made in Real Madrid’s favour is that their interest is likely to increase if Xabi Alonso takes over from Carlo Ancelotti as their head coach.

This latest update on Zubimendi follows initial reporting in January that Arsenal had all but completed a deal.
Zubimendi is a key player for club and country at the moment, making 43 appearances for Real Sociedad this season and starting six of Spain’s last eight matches.
The 26-year-old was also a regular in the Spain squad as they won Euro 2024, making four appearances including 45 vital minutes to win the final following the injury to Rodri.
