Arsenal are at an advanced stage in talks to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer, despite talk of interest from Real Madrid.

James Olley reports for ESPN that Arsenal are confident Martin Zubimendi will be their first summer signing in the upcoming window, despite interest from Real Madrid.
ESPN sources claim Arsenal are at an advanced stage in negotiations for Zubimendi, with Mikel Arteta a keen admirer and sporting director Andrea Berta agreeing that the player would help strengthen the team’s midfield.
Zubimendi’s arrival is “widely expected” at the Emirates Stadium this summer, though Real Madrid’s interest is likely to increase if Xabi Alonso replaces Carlo Ancelotti as head coach.

Olley adds that Arsenal are also interested in signing a striker and a wide forward this summer, with funds available and a willingness to let certain players leave to boost their spending power.
The latest update on Zubimendi follows initial reporting in January that Arsenal had all but completed a deal, with Arteta courting the midfielder for over a year.
Talk of Real Madrid interest in hijacking the transfer has gone back and forth since then, but it seems the Gunners are still the strong favourites at this point.

Zubimendi is a key player for club and country at the moment, making 43 appearances for Real Sociedad this season and starting six of Spain’s last eight matches.
The 26-year-old was also a regular in the Spain squad as they won Euro 2024, making four appearances including 45 vital minutes to win the final following the injury to Rodri.
