Arsenal keep tabs on Wolves forward but have other priorities

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Matheus Cunha, but he’s not the club’s priority signing in any of the positions they’ll be targeting this summer.

Alex Crook reports for talkSPORT that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, but the Gunners have other preferred targets both at centre-forward and on the left-wing.

Crook claims Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is ahead of Cunha in terms of Arsenal’s number-nine targets, whilst Athletic Club’s Nico Williams leads Cunha on the wing.

As a result, other clubs like Manchester United and Nottingham Forest are ahead of Arsenal in the chase to sign Cunha this summer.

Crooks claims that Forest’s interest is firm, but those close to the player have suggested Cunha would prefer to join a big-six club, even if Forest are in the Champions League and United aren’t.

The player’s agent will fly to England soon for talks with potential suitors, and he’s already been in contact with United.

Fabrizio Romano also recently reported that Forest were a club in the race for Cunha, calling the player their “dream target”. But it seems increasingly unlikely Arsenal will make a serious move.

Alexander Isak is Mikel Arteta’s top target, but if he’s unavailable (as he appears to be), the Gunners are also interested in Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

It’s hard to see Arsenal signing more than one striker this summer, simply because there are so many areas to address. There are concrete links to goalkeeper Joan Garcia, midfielder Martin Zubimendi, young talent Sverre Nypan, and a number of top wingers.

Hypothetically, Cunha could join as that winger. He’s played the position before. But talkSPORT’s report suggests Arsenal have other priorities there too.
