It can’t have been an easy task picking a Player of the Match after Arsenal’s 7-1 win away to PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League last-16 first leg on Tuesday, but Martin Odegaard was a worthy recipient.

The Arsenal captain has drawn some criticism lately for the inconsistency of his performances post-injury, but he was certainly on form as Mikel Arteta’s side dismantled PSV in emphatic fashion.

Odegaard scored twice, netting in the 47th and 73rd minutes to kill any chance of a first-leg comeback, and he then provided an assist for Riccardo Calafiori in the 85th minute to make it 7-1.

That impressive outside-of-the-boot assist made the Champions League’s video of their best assists of the week, and Odegaard subsequently earned a nomination for Player of the Week.

UEFA nominated Harry Kane (two goals, including one penalty), Alisson (nine saves), and Rodrygo (one goal), alongside Odegaard. You can vote for your favourite here.

The hope is that the performance can spur Odegaard on to find consistent form. The midfielder has 12 goals or assists this season, including five in six Champions League games, but he only has two in his last 13 Premier League games.
