Feyenoord have reached an agreement to appoint former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie as their new head coach, ahead of a potential Champions League tie against the Gunners.

David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that Feyenoord have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Robin van Persie as their new head coach.
Feyenoord have struck a deal with van Persie and his current club Heerenveen, and they’re now drafting the paperwork for a contract until the summer of 2027.
Arsenal will be keeping a close eye on the situation, as Feyenoord are one of their two potential last-16 opponents in the Champions League. The Gunners will learn whether they face Feyenoord or PSV Eindhoven when the draw takes place at 11:00 GMT on Friday, February 21st.

As mentioned, van Persie is already managing in the Eredivisie with Heerenveen, who sit ninth in the table.
Van Persie’s current side have won seven, drawn six, and lost 10 of their 23 league matches this season, and they were eliminated from the Dutch cup in the round of 16.
But Feyenoord have clearly seen something they like in their former player.

Van Persie played for the club between 1999 and 2004, immediately before he joined Arsenal. He then returned to the club as a player for the 2018/19 season, and he’s now set to take over as a manager.
