Matheus Cunha has ended speculation around a winter transfer by putting pen to paper on his new contract, with Arsenal ultimately opting not to pursue a deal this month.

Wolves have announced a new contract for Matheus Cunha, with the player signing on until 2029.
Arsenal were heavily linked with the player earlier this month, but Fabrizio Romano reported last week that though the Gunners did hold talks with Cunha’s camp over the winter, they didn’t follow up on those conversations.
“Arsenal had been in talks with his camp around November, December – but then in January, they never presented an official bid,” Romano confirmed.

Romano added that Cunha’s new deal will include a release clause in the summer, so it’s possible one of the clubs on his tail will make a move then.
It may not have mattered even if Arsenal formalised their interest this month, with various reports suggesting that Wolves had no plans to sell him.
Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United all had varying degrees of interest in Cunha as well. But Wolves always insisted he’s not for sale and that they hadn’t even received a formal offer for him.

Cunha has 11 goals and four assists for relegation-battling Wolves this season, most recently securing a win over Aston Villa with an injury-time settler. He signed his new contract after that game.
