Kai Havertz has confirmed that he’s undergone a successful operation on his injury, thanking the fans for their messages of support.

Following Arsenal’s win over Leicester City at the weekend, Kai Havertz shared a post on Instagram to confirm that he’s undergone surgery on his hamstring injury.

“The last few days have been tough to process both physically and mentally. But yesterday (Saturday) was a good day. A successful op and a win,” Havertz wrote.

“Thanks for all the messages of support over the last few days, it’s really helped.

“I’m now focused on my journey to full fitness and giving all the support I can give to the team in the background.”

David Ornstein broke the news last week that Havertz was set to miss the rest of the season with his hamstring injury, and that his focus now is on getting fit for the 2025/26 campaign. Arsenal later confirmed as much.

At the time, Ornstein wrote that it wasn’t clear whether or not Havertz would require surgery. But given the severity of the problem, it always seemed likely, and we now have the confirmation.

Havertz suffered the setback during Arsenal’s training camp in Dubai, and he joins Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka to complete Arsenal’s attacking trio with hamstring injuries.

Arsenal have 13 games remaining in the Premier League campaign, as well as at least two Champions League matches – hopefully more.

Leandro Trossard seemed like the obvious choice to replace Havertz, but the problem is Raheem Sterling’s poor form compared to Trossard on the wing. Ideally, Mikel Arteta would probably prefer to use Trossard out wide.

That’s what led to Mikel Merino’s starring role as a substitute centre-forward on Saturday, and we may see more of that before the end of the season.
