Ornstein confirms Arsenal really like Norwegian youngster

Arsenal ‘really like’ Rosenborg teenager Sverre Nypan, according to a report, following claims of the Gunners’ interest in the youngster back in August.

David Ornstein has confirmed in a podcast appearance on The Athletic FC that Arsenal very much appreciate Rosenborg youngster Sverre Nypan, who turned 18 in December.

“What Arsenal will be doing, like many other clubs, is looking for young players for the future, some of the best in Europe,” Ornstein began.

“[Sverre] Nypan, who plays for Rosenborg – Arsenal really like him, I’m sure others do as well.”

This isn’t the first time Arsenal have been linked with Nypan, with the Gunners first being mentioned in the race when Manchester United were favourites back in August.

Christopher Michel told Fussball News that United were still interested in Nypan, and that the player was keen. But he added that Arsenal were planning to enter the race and hold concrete talks.

Neither club could wrap up a deal at the time, with Nypan still just 17 years old. But now that he’s an adult, Arsenal can pursue a January transfer or a summer move.

Nypan played 33 games for Rosenborg last season, with the Norwegian first tier kicking off in April and ending in December. He scored eight goals and assisted 10 in those appearances.

The youngster is also a Norway u21 international, making his debut in September and going on to play four times for the team.

Perhaps Arsenal could have an advantage through Norwegian captain Martin Odegaard, pushing Nypan to pick the Gunners over his alternatives.
