Manager insists there’s no chance Arsenal target leaves this month

Thomas Frank has suggested there’s no chance Bryan Mbeumo leaves Brentford in the January transfer window, amid links with a move to Arsenal this week.

With Arsenal on the lookout for a new forward this month, reports in the French media linked the club with a move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo earlier this week.

L’Equipe initially claimed that Mikel Arteta was an admirer of Mbeumo, before RMC Sport added that Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are all monitoring the player.

RMC claimed that Brentford would wanted more than €50m (£42.3m), despite the player’s contract expiring in 2026. But manager Thomas Frank was even more emphatic about the possibility of a January exit.

“No,” Frank replied when asked by talkSPORT if there was any chance Mbeumo could leave this month. “So, very easy to answer that question!”

TalkSPORT claim Brentford are believed to have put a £50m valuation on Mbeumo, and add that he should continue to be linked with the big Premier League clubs over the summer. But evidently now is not the time for the transfer.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany had reported recently that Mbeumo was on Arsenal’s shortlist for a potential summer transfer. Recent injuries had led to the suggestion that the Gunners might bring that plan forward, but it’s not in Brentford’s interests to cooperate.

Mbeumo has scored 13 goals and assisted four this season, and he generally operates on the right wing.
