Wolves set stance on sale of January Arsenal target

Wolves insist Matheus Cunha isn’t for sale in the final days of the January transfer window, but Arsenal are interested and an offer of £60m or more could test that stance.

Various reports on Thursday have confirmed that Wolves have no plans to sell Matheus Cunha in the January transfer window.

The Guardian report that Wolves aren’t willing to sell this month, and whilst Arsenal are among Cunha’s admirers, they aren’t expected to pursue a January transfer.

John Cross writes for the Daily Star that Wolves will fight to keep Cunha, and it would take a huge offer to tempt them this month. Cross claims the player isn’t among the Gunners’ top targets anyway, though other clubs are in the mix.

Sami Mokbel writes for the Daily Mail that there is at least some interest from Arsenal, but it’s not clear if that will result in a move for the player.

Like the Gunners, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United all have varying degrees of interest in Cunha. But Wolves insist he’s not for sale and they haven’t even received a formal offer for him.

Yet Mokbel adds that it’s obvious Cunha would be interested in a move to Arsenal, and there are no indications he’ll sign his proposed contract extension with Wolves until the January window closes. An offer of £60m or more could tempt the club to reassess their stance.

Cunha has 10 goals and four assists for relegation-battlers Wolves this season, and he’s expected to play a part when his team host Arsenal in a Premier League clash on Saturday.
