Report: Arsenal to cash in on loanee for second time in 2025

Arsenal could be set to cash in on Nuno Tavares more than once in 2025, with multiple Serie A clubs showing interest in the Lazio loanee.

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is currently on loan with Lazio, and the expectation is that the move will turn permanent at some point before the loan expires in June.

Lazio have an obligation to buy in the deal based on various conditions, and the club are very keen to keep him, so they’ll likely try and ensure those conditions are met.

But Tavares may not be a permanent Lazio player for long, with reports already emerging that other Serie A clubs are looking to buy him.

Il Messaggero report (via calciomercato.com) that Inter Milan have made enquiries about Tavares, though Lazio responded that they don’t currently want to sell.

“We have been asked for Rovella, Dele-Bashiru, Castellanos and Tavares,” Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani confirmed. “Lazio has many attractive names on the market, but we must not dismantle the team, but shore it up.

“We have been asked for them by teams that represent the top in Italy and abroad, but if we give away a player because we need to make money, we are going against our modus operandi.”

Assuming Lazio make Tavares’ transfer permanent in the summer, Arsenal will receive up to €9m (£7.6m) for the move including bonuses.

The player then has a sell-on clause reportedly worth more than 25% of a future fee. That may or may not be activated this summer, but Tavares will be on a deal until June 2029, so there’ll be plenty of time for Lazio to sell him and trigger the clause at some stage.
