Loan interest in Arsenal youngster with 2 more available in January

Tommy Setford is drawing interest for a potential loan move in January, with Arsenal working on moves for a few young players in the coming window.

James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that there is loan interest in Tommy Setford ahead of the January window, though there are no guarantees that Arsenal will actually let the goalkeeper depart.

McNicholas points out that Setford is currently the Gunners’ third-choice goalkeeper, so they’d only consider letting him leave for the second half of the season if they signed an experienced replacement first. As it stands, that looks unlikely, meaning Setford is expected to stay.

But there are other young players who could be set for loans in January, with Arsenal’s pathway and loans manager Sam Hayball working on finding moves for the club’s academy talents.

Ismeal Kabia is reportedly one of the prime candidates for a loan, and Maldini Kacurri is another player Arsenal would like to give some senior football.

Both Kabia and Kacurri made their first-team debuts for Arsenal earlier this season, coming on as substitutes in the 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.

Kabia has also made the senior squad on a couple of occasions in the Premier League, whilst Kacurri has been on the bench for Mikel Arteta’s side on five other occasions between the Champions League, League Cup, and Premier League.

With Arsenal relatively short on the wings and at centre-back right now, it’s not impossible that minutes could be on offer to their academy youngsters before the season is over. But given neither Kabia nor Kacurri have featured at all for the first team recently, a good loan would be the best thing for them.
