Former Gunner provides assist ahead of 2 games vs Arsenal

Eddie Nketiah had a mixed game for Crystal Palace on Sunday, providing an assist but missing a big chance ahead of two games against Arsenal.

Former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah joined Crystal Palace over the summer, and he’s had some trouble getting going with his new club.

After 11 Premier League appearances and six starts, the forward is still yet to score a league goal for the side. He missed his best opportunity so far during Sunday’s derby game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Running through on goal with no one but the goalkeeper to stop him, Nketiah attempted a chip, but the ball sailed wide of the target. The 25-year-old’s only goal for Palace remains his League Cup finish against QPR three months ago.

Despite Sunday’s miss, there were a couple of positives in the game for Nketiah.

For a start, Palace were already winning comfortably, and they took all three points from the contest with a 3-1 victory. Nketiah himself had helped them to that scoreline, providing an assist for the third goal.

The striker headed a pass onto Ismaila Sarr, who ran in behind the defence and finished for 3-0. It was Nketiah’s first goal contribution of any kind in a league game for Palace.

Nketiah will now prepare for two games against former club Arsenal, with Palace taking on the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium in the League Cup on Wednesday, then at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

It’s not ideal for Arsenal to come up against their former player at a time when he’s so desperate for a couple of goals, and Mikel Arteta will want to ensure the drought lasts a little bit longer.
