“Out for quite a bit”: Liverpool suffer injury setback

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has suffered a hamstring injury, with Arne Slot admitting that the player is set to be out for a while.

Liverpool generally had a very good day against West Ham United on Sunday, winning 5-0, but the one negative was a first-half injury to Joe Gomez.

Arne Slot was forced to bring on Jarell Quansah in the 37th minute, and he admitted after the game that Gomez’s situation looks serious.

“If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed,” Slot began. “In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going take a while before he is back. I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite a bit. These situations can happen in a season.”

The upside for Liverpool is that Gomez might be their only unavailable player by the time their next game comes around.

Slot previously suggested that whilst Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate would be unavailable against West Ham United, they’d both have a chance at returning in time for the following game against Manchester United.

“They will not be back for West Ham, but then there’s a week in between,” Slot said last Friday. “So, let’s see how close they are then. But it’s difficult for me to tell you at this point because they don’t train with the group yet.”

Dominik Szoboszlai will also be available again after missing the West Ham game with a yellow-card suspension. Liverpool have no other injury problems or suspensions at the moment.

Liverpool face Manchester United on Sunday, before playing Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final the following Wednesday.

Those are two big games for the club, so they’ll be delighted to have a near fully-fit squad to take them on.
