Salah admits when he’s likely to leave Liverpool

Mohamed Salah helped league leaders Liverpool to another win with two goals on Sunday, but he admitted afterwards he’s “more out than in” with regards to his future at the club.

Looking to pull further ahead of Manchester City and maintain a nine-point gap to Chelsea, Arsenal, and Brighton, Liverpool were perhaps shocked to find themselves 2-1 down to Southampton at the hour mark of Sunday’s match.

As so often in recent years, Mohamed Salah stepped up to bail them out, scoring an equaliser in the 65th minute before converting a penalty in the 83rd for a 3-2 win.

Yet amid the post-match celebrations, the 32-year-old winger suggested he was currently more likely to leave Liverpool than stay next summer, when his contract is set to expire.

“Well, we’re almost in December, I haven’t received any offer to stay at the club, so probably I’m more out than in,” Salah said. “You know, I’ve been in the club for many years and [there’s] no club like this. But in the end, it’s not in my hands.

“As I said before, it’s December, so I haven’t seen anything yet about my future.

“I love the fans, the fans love me, but in the end it’s not in my hands on the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.

“Of course (it’s disappointing not to have received an offer), yeah. Disappointed, but we’ll see.”

Salah has scored 10 goals and assisted six in 12 Premier League games this season, making himself the driving force behind Liverpool’s title charge.

The winger has been in similarly good form in Europe, with a goal and four assists in four Champions League games, and he’s even netted once in his two League Cup substitute appearances.

There’s no doubt that losing him would be a hammer blow to Liverpool, but their inaction may see him departing as a free agent in July.
