Arsenal are reportedly looking to reinforce their attacking options this winter, with in-form Italian striker Mateo Retegui apparently emerging as a top target.
According to reports from CaughtOffside, the Gunners are closely monitoring the Atalanta Bergamo forward, whose performances in Serie A have caught the attention of several top clubs.
Retegui, 25, signed for Atalanta in the summer from Genoa for a fee of €22m and is under contract with the Lombardy side until June 2028. His market value has since risen to around €28m, but it is believed a bid around €50 would be required to sign him, reflecting his sensational form in the Italian top flight this season.
The San Fernando-born striker has already netted 11 goals and contributed three assists in just 12 Serie A matches, positioning him among the league’s most lethal goal-scorers.
A consistent and clinical centre-forward, Retegui is being touted as a natural fit for Arsenal’s need to strengthen their attacking depth in the upcoming transfer window.
At 1.86m tall and primarily right-footed, Retegui offers physicality and aerial ability, along with an eye for goal that Mikel Arteta‘s side could benefit from, especially with their fading hopes of challenging for the Premier League title and pushing deeper into European competition.
Retegui’s recent performances have transformed him from a relatively modest signing into one of Serie A’s most talked-about players.
Since joining Atalanta in August 2024, his market value has almost doubled (he was only valued at 16m when he was purchased for €22m) but reports suggest that his real worth could be significantly higher given the current market conditions and his standout form.
The Italian-Argentinian forward’s journey through club football has seen him rise through the ranks at Boca Juniors, with various loan spells at CA Talleres, Estudiantes LP, and Tigre before landing in Genoa in 2023.
