Kai Havertz says it would mean more to win the Champions League with Arsenal than Chelsea, and he feels at home after his Player of the Match performance against PSG.

Ahead of Arsenal’s win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, Kai Havertz made some headlines with a comment to the official club website.

The German international was speaking about his Champions League win with Chelsea, and he admitted he’d prefer to do it with Arsenal.

“It was a good moment for me in my career and something that I’m always going to think about,” Havertz said of his 2021 win.

“It’s a nice feeling but it would be even nicer if I can do it with Arsenal and it would mean a lot more.

“It’s a long way (to the trophy) but I think we’re all ready for it.”

Those comments inevitably put a bit of a spotlight on the Arsenal striker, but he didn’t shy away against PSG. He scored the opening goal of the contest and ended up winning the Player of the Match award.

The goal means Havertz is now just one away from matching the longest scoring streak of any player at the Emirates Stadium (Robin van Persie – seven games).

If the German can net against Southampton, he’ll match that record. Another goal against Shakhtar Donetsk and he’d beat it.

Reflecting on his form at the Emirates, Havertz gave a few explanations for why he produces his best football at the ground.

“It just feels like home to me,” Havertz began. “It feels nice to play here, the atmosphere is great, the support is great.

“Sometimes when the game goes against you, all the supporters are important to us. We feel that a lot on the pitch, it helps me a lot and gives me a lot of confidence.

“I can still improve. Every game, I get two or three good chances, and I want to get better and score more goals. It’s a good start to the season and I can improve in a lot of aspects.”

Havertz has six goals and assists in nine games for Arsenal so far this season, as well as scoring once in his two matches for Germany in September.

The 25-year-old’s form has certainly improved drastically since his time with Chelsea.

He’s now just 13 goals and four assists away from matching his overall Chelsea tallies, despite having played well under half of the games for Arsenal that he played for the Blues (60 vs 139).

Given the forward has scored 14 goals and assisted seven for Arsenal in 2024 alone, with three months of the year still to play, he won’t take long to hit those totals on current form.
