Arsenal are interested in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, according to a report, but they’re far from the only club in the race.
German reporter Christian Falk reports that Arsenal are interested in Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen, who has a contract with his current club until 2027.
Wirtz is reportedly keen to leave Leverkusen next summer, though his club are demanding a huge fee of €150m (£125m).
As well as Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are all reportedly interested in the 21-year-old.
Wirtz has been in fantastic form so far this season, scoring six goals and assisting one in just seven appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.
The midfielder can also play on the wing, and he scored one goal and assisted one in his two appearances there for Germany over the September break.
It’s not hard to see why Wirtz is drawing so much attention from Europe’s top clubs, but Leverkusen evidently aren’t planning to simply give him away. If Arsenal want him, they’d have to make a hefty financial commitment.
It’s probably worth keeping an eye on this story when Wirtz’s form dies down a bit, as it inevitably will at some stage. Arsenal are often linked with players while they’re in form, only for the gossip to go quiet or disappear completely as soon as that changes.
But a young, talented attacking midfielder who can also cover on the wing is a player you’d be foolish to doubt Arsenal’s interest in.
