We’re coming up to almost two decades since Arsenal last picked up the Premier League Trophy and we Gunners are getting itchy feet. Fans’ patience has been wearing thin year after year and everyone is anxiously watching as the Manchester Blues set their sights on the win – but hopefully this year, it’s time for a change. Manager Mikel Arteta joined the team in 2019, when he pushed the boys into winning the FA Cup for his debut season, but his ethos around team-building and creating a team identity aren’t going to keep on winning trophies. The summer transfer window has finally closed, and although Arsenal is one of the only teams to have a pretty uneventful season, there are still some great players joining the boys.

One of the biggest criticisms that Arsenal has faced over the last few years is their clear lack of depth. Along with this, the team has been hampered by injuries: just look at the captain and key player Martin Odegaar. The injuries of last season meant that Arsenal couldn’t keep up with the golden four in the finals, but this season feels a whole lot different. The squad that’s been rounded up by Arteta comes with plenty of drive and a passion to get the Gunners to where they belong. There’s resilience in tow, and we will ensure it doesn’t get to the twenty-year mark without a win. In this blog, we’re going to take a look at the all-new players from the transfer window and see if they really will help Arsenal win the Premier League.

1.   Riccardo Calafiori

Coming in at number one is 22-year-old Italian professional, Riccardo Calafiori. Sat at the top spot as the most expensive purchase for the team in a while, this player was bought in by Arteta for a bank-breaking £42 million. Coming from Bologna, the player has even been dubbed as one of the best in his position back in his home country – making him a solid move for Arsenal’s manager.

Calafiori plays in defence for Arsenal, and seeing as the captain’s down with a pretty serious injury, we know that Calafiori is going to have to pull off a great round of defence. Known for his professional debut at just eight years old, this strong player is one to watch when you’re betting on soccer and hoping to grab some wins. Will this new player make a mark on the team for this season? Well, from what we’re hearing, he’s already loved by some of the world greats. So take that as a likely yes.

2. Raheem Sterling

In one of the most dramatic loans in a long time, Raheem Sterling has joined Arsenal with a mission to win alongside the GOAT – Saka. In a very last-minute end to the transfer window, Raheem Sterling comes as a season-long loan that’s set to make a huge impact. He’s here to bridge the much-needed depth to the wing positions, which is a certified step toward lifting the cup in any game. He’s got an abundance of wins under his belt from his previous team, so he’ll be adding confidence and strength to Arsenal, even if it’s just for the season. The 29-year-old winger is on loan from Chelsea and only joined the squad because of Arteta’s monumental rise to success, but we can’t wait to see what he does.

That might not seem like a super long list, but it appears that Arsenal has had a small but mighty line-up planned for this season. Will they win the Premier League this year? Only time will tell. First, let’s see where we went wrong last year.

Last season’s challenges

The main thing to go wrong for the team last season was most definitely the issue of some serious injuries. Gabriel Jesus and William Saliba are just a couple of the names that were taken off the pitch, but they were also some of the most important aspects of the team — which led to Arsenal’s downfall.

As well as this, Arteta may have been loved for being so passionate yet undeniably obsessed with teamwork, but he just truly missed the mark. He is making a switch for this season’s gameplay and has said that he wishes to press on and make quick transitions. Good defence is the name of the game for this season – mark our words – so Arteta has to brush up on his managerial skills and make sure their team is as unpredictable as possible. Because at the end of the day, the only reason Arsenal is falling from glory is because of the little knocks along the way.

Will they manage to do it this year? We know the Gunners will do all they can to break their drought and come out on top.
