Ben White has been absent from Arsenal’s recent matches with a groin problem, but the right-back is in contention to return against Paris Saint-Germain.
Ben White has missed out on Arsenal’s last couple of matches, having played 45 minutes against Manchester City the weekend before last.
The suggestion at the time was that Mikel Arteta had intended to rest White, and he was only forced to use the defender following Leandro Trossard’s red card. Arsenal needed an extra man at the back, so they had to take a risk on White’s fitness.
But Football.London report that White has a groin problem, and Arteta opted not to risk him again in last week’s fixtures against Bolton Wanderers and Leicester City.
The question now is whether White could be fit to face PSG or Southampton this week.
Arteta answered questions on White and Riccardo Calafiori in his pre-match press conference, with Calafiori also a doubt with a minor knee issue.
“Those are the two players that are in contention and we have to review today,” Arteta said.
“We didn’t do any training session yesterday. [Calafiori] was a bit emotional after the game. Let’s see how he is today.”
Arsenal have a training session in front of the media on Monday afternoon, so they won’t be able to hide if White or Calafiori are absent. But if the pair are involved, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be ready for the PSG clash.
We’ll only know that for sure when the teams are released on Tuesday evening.
