Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Yerson Mosquera, known for his controversial on-field antics this season, is expected to miss the rest of the campaign after suffering a serious knee injury.
The Colombian centre-back was stretchered off in Wolves’ 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa, with scans revealing damage to his left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL).
Mosquera’s first season in the Premier League has been marked by a number of ridiculous incidents, including choking Arsenal‘s Kai Havertz and a confrontation involving Gabriel Jesus during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Wolves in August where he appeared to try and stick his fingers into Jesus’s bum.
Both went unpunished, angering fans, especially when Jesus was booked for his reaction.

In the next match, Mosquera injured Chelsea‘s Moises Caicedo with an awful tackle, once again escaping the red card he deserved.

Phil Hayward, Wolves’ head of high performance, confirmed the extent of Mosquera’s injury, stating, “Yerson has now had all of the various assessments and scans which unfortunately confirm injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
“We will be visiting specialists in the coming days to finalise the plan for surgery; this will take place in the next two weeks.”
Hayward added that it is “highly unlikely” Mosquera will feature again this season. “Clearly there is a long recovery period ahead for Yerson,” Hayward added, “and the club will be providing all the support he needs to ensure a successful rehabilitation and a return to competition in due course.
“Timescales are difficult to state prior to surgery but it is highly unlikely he will feature again this season.”
