Arsenal have sell-on clauses in the contracts of former academy players Mika Biereth, Brooke Norton-Cuffy, and Charlie Patino, according to a report.

As well as the first-team sales of Aaron Ramsdale (up to £25m), Eddie Nketiah (up to £30m), and Emile Smith Rowe (up to £34m), Arsenal made a few lower-profile academy sales in the summer window.

The Gunners sold Mika Biereth to Sturm Graz for £4m, they sold Brooke Norton-Cuffy to Genoa for up to £3.5m, and Charlie Patino to Deportivo La Coruna for £1m.

But the club could earn more than just those £8.5m transfer fees in the future, with The Athletic reporting that all three deals contained sell-on clauses.

The exact percentage value of the clauses hasn’t been confirmed, though Patino’s was described as “significant”, which is unsurprising given the low initial fee for his deal.

Arsenal have profited from sell-on clauses in recent transfer windows.

First-team examples include Matteo Guendouzi’s sell-on clause with Marseille (activated when he joined Lazio) and Konstantinos Mavropanos’ clause with Stuttgart (activated when he joined West Ham United).

But there are also academy examples. Mark McGuinness left the Arsenal academy for Cardiff City in 2021, and the Gunners earned around £2m this summer when he moved on to Luton Town.

If Biereth, Norton-Cuffy, and Patino can continue to improve over the coming years, Arsenal could be in line for further payouts.

Biereth has already made a fast start with Sturm, with four goals and one assist in his first seven games as a permanent player for the club.

Norton-Cuffy has been out injured for Genoa so far, but he’ll hope to make an impact on his return, likely in October.

Patino only moved last week, so he’ll need some time to get settled in. He made the bench for Deportivo on Sunday.
