Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window but they turned it down, according to a report.

Going into the 2024 summer transfer window, Victor Osimhen was one of the key names expected to make a big-money transfer.

There was talk of interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, among others in Saudi Arabia, but Osimhen ultimately ended up joining Galatasaray on loan.

In the end, no club was willing to offer the money Napoli wanted, and there was a significant gap between what the Serie A club believed he was worth and what everyone else thought.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Osimhen in June for €120-130m (£101-109m), but they immediately turned down that offer.

Romano adds that the links later in the summer were inaccurate, with the Gunners already having decided not to sign a striker by that stage.

When nothing else worked out, Osimhen ultimately decided to join Galatasaray in a temporary move until June 2025, with Napoli refusing to reintegrate him into their squad.

The striker’s release clause has reportedly been reduced to €75m (£63.1m) next summer, and it remains to be seen whether or not there are any buyers at that price.

That will likely depend on Osimhen’s performances over the next nine months.
