Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard has been nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, following Bukayo Saka’s Young Player nomination.
The PFA confirmed their nominees for Players’ Player of the Year on Tuesday morning, with Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard listed among the six names.
The other five were Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Rodri, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
The award is voted for by the players, so there’s no opportunity for input by the public. The result will be announced on August 20th, 2024.
Odegaard scored eight goals and assisted 10 in 35 Premier League games last season, helping Arsenal to challenge for the title. He was a key figure in the team as an attacking outfit, providing much of the creativity on the right-hand side.
It’s been a while since an Arsenal player has won the Players’ Player of the Year award, with Robin van Persie winning it in 2011/12, and Thierry Henry receiving consecutive awards in 2002/03 and 2003/04.
As well as Odegaard, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has also received a nomination, but in the Young Player of the Year category.
Saka scored 16 goals and assisting a further nine for Arsenal in 35 Premier League appearances in 2023/24, and he’s defending his title having also won the award in 2022/23.
