Marseille could do a deal for Eddie Nketiah for a fee in the region of €25m with a sell-on clause, according to a report.
Earlier this week, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Marseille had made a new bid for Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, worth in the region of €20m (£16.8m).
Yet whilst the formula of the offer was closer to Arsenal’s demands, the two clubs remained some way apart on the fee.
Adam Manseur reports for Canal Plus that Arsenal initially wanted €30m (£25.3m) for Nketiah, though Marseille made it clear they wouldn’t go that high.
Yet a compromise could be possible, with Manseur suggesting a deal could be done for €25m (£21.1m) plus a sell-on clause.
The same journalist later added that Nketiah has reaffirmed to his representatives his desire to join Marseille, with negotiations ongoing and optimism that an agreement can be reached.
Ornstein had already reported that Nketiah has agreed a five-year contract with Marseille, and he’s keen to join Roberto De Zerbi’s team if the two clubs can agree.
Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has also claimed on Twitter that he’s already told Nketiah to join Marseille.
Nketiah made 37 appearances for Arsenal last season, but just 13 of those were starts. The striker has featured in all of the Gunners’ pre-season friendlies so far, with the club currently finishing up their tour of the United States.
