Riccardo Calafiori is already making a positive impression on his new Arsenal teammates, according to club captain Martin Odegaard.

New Arsenal signing Riccardo Calafiori joined up with the team for their pre-season tour of the United States earlier this week, but the fans are yet to see him in action.

Wednesday’s friendly against Liverpool came too soon for the defender to feature, but he has taken part in training sessions with Arsenal.

Martin Odegaard says the squad have been impressed by what they’ve seen from the Italy international.

“Everyone saw it straight away in the training, he’s a top player,” Odegaard said.

“He’s a top defender, physical, he has this presence on the pitch, and I’m sure he’s going to give us a lot.

“[I’m] happy to have him onboard and looking forward to seeing more from him.”

Fans could get their first live look at Calafiori in an Arsenal shirt when the Gunners play Bayer Leverkusen in next week’s friendly match on Wednesday, August 7th at 18:00 BST.

Arsenal then play Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, August 11th at 14:00 BST in the Emirates Cup, the final pre-season game before the Premier League campaign kicks off.

With any luck, Calafiori will be able to play a role in both friendlies so he’s ready to feature in Arsenal’s opener against Wolves on August 17th.
