The Premier League have confirmed their official appointments for the opening weekend of the 2024/25 campaign, including for Arsenal’s home game against Wolves on Saturday, August 17th at 15:00 BST.

Jarred Gillett has been appointed as the referee for the game, assisted by Darren Cann and Nick Greenhalgh. Gavin Ward will act as the fourth official.

Paul Tierney will be on VAR, with Natalie Aspinall as his assistant in the VAR room.

In other Premier League official news, the league have launched a new social media account called the “Premier League Match Centre” on Twitter.

The account will provide live updates from Stockley Park, including clarification on refereeing and VAR from all matches – when required.

The account will also provide additional information on the Laws of the Games and VAR processes from PGMOL experts when those explanations would be helpful.

With any luck, we won’t need any such clarifications for the Arsenal game, but it’s probably worth following the account just in case.

On the subject of VAR, semi-automated offsides are set to be introduced this season, but not yet.

The Premier League have only committed to bringing in the new technology after one of the autumn international breaks, with no clarity over whether that means September, October, or November.

For the time being, we’ll still be relying on lines being drawn manually on frames by the people at Stockley Park.
