Arsenal youth goalkeeper Owen Asemota is set to join Aston Villa, with the Gunners to earn £1m in compensation for the move.
Jeorge Bird reports for Arsenal Youth that Owen Asemota has turned down Arsenal’s offer of a scholarship deal, and he’s set to join fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.
The Gunners are set to receive £1m in compensation for the deal, as Asemota has spent many years with the academy and was offered a contract extension.
Arsenal and Villa are currently going through the process to finalise the compensation payment.
Asemota will become one of nine goalkeepers to leave Arsenal this summer, if you count David Raya leaving at the end of his loan before returning as a permanent signing.
The list also includes Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton, Karl Hein to Real Valladolid on loan, Ovie Ejeheri to Midtjylland, Arthur Okonkwo to Wrexham, Noah Cooper to Stoke City, and James Hillson to Southend United.
Hubert Graczyk is the final goalkeeper of the nine to leave, and as of yet he remains a free agent. Manchester United have been linked with a move, but nothing has come of that so far.
By contrast, the Gunners have only currently brought three goalkeepers in. Raya from Brentford, Tommy Setford from Ajax, and Lucas Nygaard as a free agent.
It’s clear why Arsenal are looking to sign one or two more goalkeepers before Friday’s deadline.
