Arsenal have officially secured the services of Neto on loan from Bournemouth after an intensive search for a backup goalkeeper.

The move follows the club’s unsuccessful attempts to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol and Dan Bentley from Wolves.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, Neto said, “I’m realising a dream in my life, a dream come true, and I’m really, really happy.

“I had two dreams as a kid to play for a football team. It was my team in Brazil, where I grew up and became a professional footballer, and also Arsenal. And now I’m realising it! I’m a really lucky person.

“To all the supporters of Arsenal, I’d just like to say I’m one more fan here. My dream has come true, I’m really happy. Depend on me, I’ll give more than 100% to give everything for Arsenal.

The Gunners had been in pursuit of Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, even making an improved offer of €20 million plus add-ons.

However, Espanyol remained firm on their demand for the full €30 million release clause, leading Arsenal to withdraw from the race.

Arsenal then turned their attention to securing Neto, with the 35-year-old Brazilian providing experienced cover for David Raya.

Neto, who made 63 appearances for Bournemouth, brings a wealth of experience from his time at top European clubs including Barcelona, Juventus, and Valencia.

His career has also seen him earn one cap for the Brazilian national team, where he has also made the bench on 23 occasions.

Arsenal’s pursuit of goalkeeping reinforcements saw a flurry of activity on deadline day.

Despite their efforts, Wolves refused to part with Dan Bentley, leaving Arsenal with limited options. The Athletic reported that Wolves were unwilling to sanction Bentley’s departure with little time to find a replacement, prompting Arsenal to finalise the loan for Neto.

Neto reportedly completed his medical at Arsenal on Friday morning. However, the club’s efforts to secure Joan Garcia caused a delay in registering Neto, resulting in him missing the deadline to be available for selection in Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton.

With Neto unavailable, young goalkeeper Tommy Setford is expected to be on the bench as backup to David Raya, with Alexei Rojas likely to serve as the third-choice option.

The signing of Neto on loan adds depth to Arsenal’s goalkeeping options as they continue their campaign across multiple competitions, although Neto is cup-tied for the Carabao Cup.

Although the club’s efforts to bring in a younger, long-term option like Joan Garcia were unsuccessful, the acquisition of Neto ensures that the team has reliable experience between the posts for the remainder of the season.
