Five Arsenal players have been named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2023/24, though Arsenal’s nominees missed out on the Player and Young Player awards.

The PFA awards took place on Tuesday night, revealing the PFA Team of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Player of the Year.

Arsenal ended up being very successful in the former category, with David Raya, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard all named in the Team of the Year for 2023/24.

The Gunners had seen Bukayo Saka nominated for Young Player of the Year and Odegaard nominated for Player of the Year, but they lost out to Cole Palmer of Chelsea and Phil Foden of Manchester City respectively.

The players in the Team of the Year have shared their reactions to the decision on social media.

Raya said he was “honoured to be named on the Team of the Year”, his first appearance in the side. Gabriel called his inclusion “a massive honour” too, before sharing a clip celebrating the award on a call with his wife.

In what was becoming a bit of a theme, Rice also said it was “an honour to be in my first PFA Team of the Year”.

But Odegaard broke the pattern, just posting pictures captioned with a sunglasses emoji on his Instagram page.

As for Saliba, he’s yet to share his reaction to the award, though he did post three heart emojis in response to Gabriel’s post. The two of them are probably well aware that they helped each other to this award.

Now the focus will be back on this season and making it into the 2024/25 Team of the Year in 12 months’ time.
