Arsenal have given Eddie Nketiah permission to undergo a medical at Crystal Palace after agreeing to sell the 25-year-old striker for £25 million plus £5 million in potential add-ons.
According to David Ornstein, Palace is finalising agreements with both Arsenal and Nketiah, who is set to become Palace’s fourth summer signing.
Despite being highly regarded as a talented forward with an eye for goal, Nketiah never fully secured a consistent starting role under Mikel Arteta.
Over the years, he made 168 appearances and scored 38 goals for Arsenal, but with increased competition in the squad, his opportunities have remained limited.
For Nketiah, the move to Palace offers a fresh start and a greater chance for regular first-team football.
The striker has shown flashes of his potential at Arsenal, with a record of 38 goals and seven assists in 7,000 minutes. His average of 0.58 goals and assists per 90 minutes highlights his effectiveness when given the opportunity.
However, with Gabriel Jesus and other attacking options ahead of him in the pecking order, Nketiah struggled to consistently earn starting minutes at the Emirates.
Earlier in the transfer window, Nketiah was linked with moves to Marseille and Nottingham Forest. Talks with Marseille broke down due to valuation differences, while a £30 million agreement with Nottingham Forest fell through after the player was unable to agree personal terms.
With time running out in the window, Palace emerged as the frontrunners, offering a deal that satisfies both the player and Arsenal.
At Crystal Palace, Nketiah will join a squad looking to strengthen their attacking options and build on their Premier League stability.
The south London side has had a relatively active transfer window, and adding Nketiah to their squad provides them with a proven goal scorer with Premier League experience.
Under Oliver Glasner’s management, Nketiah could become a key figure in Palace’s plans for the season.
As the transfer edges closer to completion, it represents a crucial step in Nketiah’s career as he seeks to establish himself as a first-choice striker in the Premier League.
Arsenal fans will watch with interest as another Hale End graduate moves on, hoping to finally unlock his potential in new surroundings.
