Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Neto from Bournemouth, but moves for Joan Garcia and Dan Bentley appear set to fail, with no further incomings expected.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal have completed a deal to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth, after their final bid for Joan Garcia of Espanyol was turned down.
The Gunners had made an improved offer of €20m plus add-ons for Garcia, but Espanyol continued to insist on the goalkeeper’s release clause of €30m.
As a result, Arsenal have left the race for Garcia and signed Neto on loan instead.
The 35-year-old made 63 appearances for Bournemouth, having previously played for Barcelona, Juventus, and Valencia, among other clubs. He’s also represented the Brazilian national team on one occasion, and made their bench 23 times.
James McNicholas and David Ornstein report for The Athletic report that Dan Bentley is also set to stay at Wolves this summer, despite Arsenal making a deadline-day enquiry for the goalkeeper.
Wolves were unwilling to sanction the move, with limited time to find a replacement.
The Athletic’s report adds that as things stand, Arsenal aren’t expected to do any further business.
Neto reportedly held his medical at Arsenal on Friday morning, but the deal was seemingly on hold while the club made one last attempt at a permanent move for Garcia.
The unfortunate byproduct of that delay is that the Gunners have presumably failed to register Neto before midday, meaning he won’t be available for Saturday’s match against Brighton.
Tommy Setford will have to step up to the bench to support David Raya for the fixture, with Alexei Rojas likely acting as the third-choice option.
