According to The Athletic, Arsenal are currently in negotiations with Manchester United to determine a suitable compensation fee for the transfer of young striker Chido Obi Martin.

The 16-year-old Danish youth international has reportedly completed his medical at Carrington and is eager to join the Red Devils’ youth ranks.

The transfer saga began when Obi-Martin, despite being offered a lucrative contract by Arsenal, seemed dissatisfied with the club’s proposed development pathway. The young striker’s camp reportedly wanted an immediate transition to the Under-21s squad, a request deemed premature by Arsenal’s coaching staff.

Financial disparity also played a part, with reports suggesting that Arsenal was unwilling to offer more than £15,000 per week for his first professional contract.

Obi Martin’s decision to leave Arsenal is particularly disheartening for the club, given his prolific goal-scoring record in the academy. The 16-year-old netted an impressive 32 goals in 20 league games for the Arsenal U18s last season, drawing interest from several top clubs.

However, despite Arsenal’s attempts to persuade him to stay, the youngster is set on a move to Manchester United which is likely to take a few weeks to complete due to the ratification process.

The Athletic also report that “It is anticipated he will join United’s under-18s and under-21s, potentially getting some first-team training minutes when appropriate.”

The clubs are expected to come to an agreement regarding the fee rather than needing to refer the matter to a tribunal.
