Arsenal‘s bid to strengthen their defensive ranks with the acquisition of Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadıoğlu has encountered a setback, as the Turkish club reportedly demands a significantly higher fee than initially offered.

Reports from various Turkish media outlets, including Nutuk.tr and Ajansspor, suggest that Arsenal, along with Borussia Dortmund, tabled an offer in the region of €20 million for the 24-year-old Turkish international.

However, Fenerbahce, buoyed by Kadıoğlu’s stellar performances at Euro 2024 and widespread interest in the player, are holding out for a fee closer to €35 million, which would set a new transfer record for a player leaving the Super Lig.

It remains unclear whether Arsenal will submit an improved offer to meet Fenerbahce’s valuation. The Gunners’ initial bid, reportedly made in June, was swiftly rejected by Fenerbahce president Ali Koc, who stated that the club would only consider a transfer for an offer between €35-40 million.

Kadıoğlu, who primarily operates as a left-back but can also play on the right, has become a key player for Fenerbahce, making 51 appearances last season and contributing three goals and five assists. His impressive displays for both club and country have attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including West Ham United, Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Newcastle United.

It’s also worth noting that the Turkish media has a history of linking Arsenal with high-profile players, and English journalists have yet to corroborate the multiple Turkish reports of a formal bid.
