On Monday, Arsenal youth striker Chido Martin Obi confirmed the rumours that he’s departing the club this summer.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Arsenal for the past four years,” Martin Obi wrote on Instagram.

“The experiences and growth I’ve achieved here have been truly invaluable. A special thanks to the coaches, staff, and teammates at Hale End. The memories made will always be remembered.

“Thank you once again for this journey. I wish everyone continued success and all the best for the future.”

David Ornstein reported for The Athletic 11 days ago that Manchester United are exploring a deal to sign Martin Obi, with Arsenal making what they felt was a fair offer but the striker deciding to reject it.

At the time, discussions were at an early stage, and United were only one of a host of interested teams. Though Ornstein did specifically rule out a move to Manchester City.

Other clubs heavily linked with the striker include Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, drawn in by the fact they’d have to pay no more than a €400,000 training compensation fee for the out-of-contract forward this summer.

Martin Obi finished as the u18 Premier League’s top scorer in 2023/24 with 32 goals, 11 ahead of his nearest competitor in the division.
