Former Arsenal coach Andreas Georgson has joined Manchester United, with the move confirmed the day before a friendly between the two clubs.
Andreas Georgson has had a whirlwind few years, ever since joining Arsenal in 2020.
Then a set-piece coach with the Gunners, Georgson spent a year in north London before leaving to work as Malmo’s Sports Manager in 2021.
Arsenal promptly replaced him with Nicolas Jover, who remains at the club to this day.
Georgson spent a couple of years with Malmo, acting as their caretaker manager for a couple of months in 2022, then as their technical director. But he returned to England in August 2023 to become Southampton’s set-piece coach.
Just five months later, Georgson was on the move again, accepting a head coach job with Lillestrom on a three-year deal in January of this year. Six months after that, and he’s joined Manchester United.
United have confirmed that Georgson will work as a first-team coach with the club. Erik ten Hag remains manager, with Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy as his assistant managers.
Georgson will then work as a first-team coach along with Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher. Those three don’t appear to be considered assistant managers like Hake and van Nistelrooy.
Perhaps Georgson will now finally find a place to settle down for the long term, though you never know with Manchester United.
The timing of the announcement is coincidental, with United set to take on Arsenal in a friendly on Saturday night (01:00 BST on Sunday UK time).
