Karl Hein signed a new deal with Arsenal on the condition that the club would try to find him a good loan this season, according to a report.

James McNicholas of The Athletic reports that Karl Hein was persuaded to sign a new contract with Arsenal on the basis that Arsenal would try to source him a good loan with regular first-team football this summer.

Hein was set to be out of contract this summer, meaning he could have moved on a free transfer for no more than a training compensation fee.

Instead, the Estonia international committed his future to Arsenal on the understanding he could have that loan in 2024/25.

With David Raya joining the club this summer and reports that Arsenal could look to bring in two more senior goalkeepers and two more youth goalkeepers, it’s no surprise Hein wants a temporary move elsewhere.

It’s going to be hard enough for Arsenal’s more senior goalkeepers to get minutes, let alone Hein with his 11 senior club appearances – only one of which was for Arsenal.

The other 10 are split evenly between his loan to Reading and his prior spell at Nomme United.

Hein has had a lot more luck on the international stage, playing 30 times in senior fixtures for Estonia and making himself their starting goalkeeper in the big games.

But the 22-year-old will want to translate that to his club game, lest he lose that Estonia spot due to lack of minutes.
